The Laws of Spirit

What should I do? Whom should I follow? What belief system is best? Is one belief better than another? Is one path more productive than another? Why do I never feel that I am done, that I am there, that I have arrived?

Yes, it often seems that there is something missing, that there is some question left unanswered, something left to do or that our path through this life could have been better. The question lingers. It seems to arrive at the most inopportune times.

No, these questions are not asked by everyone. Some seem very sure of themselves and appear to have found a ‘nitch’ that satisfies the soul. But if we talk with them for a while, we soon find that this is not perfectly true. Everything is not perfect. Things could be changed; things should be better.

The Question drives the human Spirit. We are not here for the answer. We are here for the Question.

There are two distinct ways that we can understand the self and the world around us. There is the implicit and the explicit.

im·plic·it: capable of being understood from something else though unexpressed. Involved in the nature or essence of something though not revealed, expressed, or developed. Being without doubt or reserve.

ex·plic·it: fully revealed or expressed without vagueness, implication, or ambiguity. Leaving no question as to meaning or intent. 

When viewed from an explicit platform, the physical world leaves little room for doubt. Things are the way they are because of specific laws; thing can be changed according to how we apply these laws. But the physical world is not that simple.

Recent scientific discoveries about how our reality works show us very clearly that a higher order, an order beyond the cause and effect relationships of the mechanical world exists. These discoveries have lead to the study of Chaos. In the past, the term Chaos implied disorder or lack of order. We know now that Chaos is not the lack of order at all. Chaos is the existence of order on a ‘higher’ level. The entire physical world works together as a whole to produce what we experience now. This order is so intrinsic in the physical world that no single element of cause can ever be implied. Scientists studying Chaos understand that the hurricane off the coast of Florida can be traced to the single wing flap of a butterfly in Tokyo weeks earlier. But it doesn’t stop there. The nature of Chaos tells us that the ‘cause’ has to continue back through the evolution of the butterfly from the very beginning life on Earth. Any subtle change along those millions of years has a tremendous effect on the end event. Whew! That’s a long journey for a single hurricane.

And that is just the ‘beginning.’ The order of Chaos tells us that the butterfly did not act alone. It is not just that single flap of butterfly wings, but the position of every tree, every flower, every rock, every building – everything on earth at the moment the event took place. The air currents created by the butterfly’s wings were not really the source. Every breath of every living creature is taken into account at that moment. At that moment, everything had to be just right. The order of Chaos is very sensitive to initial conditions.

In the order of Chaos we find that there is no specific cause and effect. In the vast and ever changing environment of our own physical world, everything works together, nothing is out of place and everything contributes to the whole. In this order, which can be called Divine Order, the universe is in a constant state of change and a constant state of ever changing Balance. Because of the Divine Order’s sensitivity to initial conditions, no initial condition exists. Time can be divided into separations so small that they seem meaningless. But to Diving Order, there is no ‘time’ when everything is not perfectly in Balance and constantly changing.

We view our physical reality and interact within it mostly in explicit terms. The ‘cause and effect’ relationships or our reality have a tendency to drive our decisions. And in some respects, they should. The very act of surviving in physical reality demands that this must be so. And we can judge our ‘place’ in reality as well as our short term ‘destination’ according to our explicit understanding. This function is carried out in the portion of our mind that lives behind the paradigm. But our mind is more that just explicit understanding and involvement. We are unlimited, creative Spirit beings, and a portion of that awareness is always with us. The moment that our mind becomes a bit still, or in some cases, extremely overloaded with sensory information, we touch that implicit awareness.

We can call this portion of our awareness the High Self, Inner Self, or Heart; the name we give is not important. What is important to know is that the High Self holds implicit Knowledge and Awareness. The High Self knows exactly why we are where we are in reality, the precise choices that led us to this point, and the inner potential that will lead us on our Path. The High Self is perfectly comfortable with all of this.

This cannot be understood at the explicit layer of mind. In order to touch this awareness, we must make contact with the High Self. Some will tell us that this is the ultimate goal of mankind. It may be for some, but it is defiantly not the case for all. Each of us made the choice to participate in this reality; each of us decided what ‘goals’ we would take with us. They are not the same for all. What is the same for all is the fact that our High Self is constantly laying the groundwork in our reality to insure that we will achieve our predetermined goals or desires. Again, this cannot be understood by mind at the explicit layer.

Some, a few, came here to gain High Self awareness. When High Self awareness arrives, the need for explicit relationships falls away. Balance Is. Nothing needs to be changed. Those that are here have made the choice, and to preach another ‘goal’ would imply that Balance is not.

Many of us came here for other reasons. We can understand implicit relationships from an explicit layer, but we cannot experience them. For us, because the total implicit awareness and understanding that we are always in the exact Center of The One and that Balance Is cannot be held in explicit mind, the Question will always remain. The Question is not an implication of imperfection or the need to grow. The Question is accepted as a necessary part of our participation in consensus reality.

I can assure you, The One is perfectly content with whatever decisions we have made in the past and those that we will make in the future. The One is Balance. The Question does not come from The One. The Question arises from us. We only question ourselves. We only judge ourselves

Our High Self is constantly setting the conditions to insure that we experience the desires of our Heart. With each decision that we make, we have an opportunity to follow the mind in a consensus evaluation of cause and effect, or listen to our Heart. By necessity, the presentation of mind is based on our consensus understanding of good and bad, right and wrong. These decisions do have to be made, but it is good to also hold in our awareness the knowledge that our High Self is not viewing reality in this manner. In our High Self awareness, everything fits perfectly. Of course, this causes the Question to arise in mind.

I encourage all to make each decision in Love and to accept the decisions of others in Love. At the same time, I hold in mind the understanding that all decisions are made in Love. As Balance Is, Love Is. Explicit mind cannot understand this, but explicit mind can accept this.
