The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

Joe Jacobs asks ‘What does it mean to you, ‘Do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?’

Great question Joe.

The phrase comes from the Book of Beginnings, Genesis in Bible. Setting aside all the conflicts and looking at the story in its intended form, we see the beginning of the illusion of separation. Spirit completed the creation process in the awareness of Balance. In this state, all Spirit beings have intimate awareness of each other. There is nothing hidden, thoughts are shared openly and decisions are made in unity. The term, I AM is a reality because the thoughts of The One, or God are the conscious awareness of each individual Spirit. It is not God talking out there and us listening where we are. We are everywhere and we are One.

From this perspective, creation appears in its Holistic form where everything fits perfectly and there is no good or bad, right or wrong. Life and death from a physical perspective is meaningless. Life in this state of awareness is Unity, not physical form or separation. It is a world of thought manifest in the subtle energies of the physical form. It is as if you and I together painted a beautiful scene on a great canvas and we are standing back, looking at it and enjoying our creation.

At this point, the ‘knowledge of good and evil’ exists as a potential for the illusion of separation in our awareness. We can imagine ourselves being inside the painting we just created. The knowledge of the illusion of separation is the tree. The illusion of separation begins with participation in the potential for good and evil at the point where we enter into the creation. To participate in this illusion is to ‘eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.’

From another perspective, we can see that on our canvas, if I painted myself over here and you painted yourself over there, we could not see each. I could hide from you in our painting, and you could hide from me. This is the knowledge of the potential for separation. We are looking at our creation and seeing the potential for separation. We have not done it yet. We have not eaten from the tree of the knowledge. There is no time at this point. As we imagine our participation, the potential for separation begins. We are kind of in there and still in a state of Awareness of Balance. Because of this, our participation lacks a degree of ‘reality.’

The extremes of Awareness and Experience are at either end of the spectrum of Spirit, and the awareness of Balance is the center. At this point we know that full immersion or involvement in our creation will complete the Expression of The One in Experience. We may think, ‘This might be fun.’ As we consider doing this, the entire world of Spirit hears and reflects, ‘If you do this, you will experience the illusion of separation.’ (you will die) The saying, ‘you will die’ is not said in a negative manner. From the perspective of The One, it is a simple statement giving evidence of the fact that participation in the illusion of separation begins the process of the Expression of The One in Experience.

You look at me and I look at you and we say, ‘Let’s do it.’ Remember that this is not just you and I. We are Spirit in the awareness of Balance at this point, and numbers are meaningless. Again, the entire world of Spirit that is The One hears and reflects, ‘Go forth and have dominion.’

I feel impelled to take your question a bit further. The process just explained is ‘incarnation,’ but it did not happen in an instant and this is reflected in the Bible, too.

First, the reflection of The One, ‘Go forth and have dominion’ is never recanted in the Bible. You can read from cover to cover and you will not hear God say, ‘You no longer have dominion.’ You will hear, ‘Because you have done this, this is what will happen.’ but this statement is not made in judgment. All Spirit is still in Balance in The One and is still in dominion through those of us that participate in Experience.

Secondly, incarnate Spirit did not become immersed in the illusion of separation instantly. Time does not exist outside the illusion and Spirit retained access to Awareness during the initial ‘stages’ of creation. We can see this reflected in the fact that, ‘There were giants in the Earth in those days and nothing was impossible for them.’ And, ‘The Sons of God (Spirit not yet incarnate) saw the daughters of Man (Spirit incarnate) that they were fair and took as many of them as they would for wives.’ This is not male and female as we know it, but different expressions of The One in Experience. It is Spirit not incarnate looking at our painting and deciding to participate.

At this point, Spirit is still able to come and go from the painting of creation at will. Access to full Awareness and Balance is available with just a thought and Spirit expressed as an entity is still in full communication with Spirit expressed in The One. The Garden scene speaks of God walking and talking with man in the cool of the evening. Like a play on the stage, every actor knows his or her part as well as the parts the other actors are supposed to play. I know my lines and what lines to expect from you. You know your lines and what to expect from me. I play on your lines and you play on mine. It is fun, but lacks a degree of ‘reality.’

In order for full immersion to take place, I have to know what my lines are but be unable to determine your reaction. This will happen only if you and I can no longer communicate with each other as Spirit not incarnate. When this takes place, you and I can no longer communicate with the total of Spirit or The One.

It is not possible for this to happen because all that is, is of The One. So, we must devise a system through which we can make our illusion more realistic. To accomplish this, we place communication behind a media contained within the illusion. We intentionally set aside our ability to communicate Spirit to Spirit and ‘hide’ behind the physical form of communication. Our language is now confused because our awareness contains only our thoughts. Even though we speak the same language, it is confused because we are hiding behind the physical media and cut ourselves off from the thoughts and the awareness of others both here in our reality and in The One.

Again, this is not a ‘bad thing.’ It is simply an expression of The One in Experience. We are giving that expression by our participation.

The phrase, ‘Do not eat of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil’ is incomplete without the conclusion that if we do so, we will experience the illusion of separation. And again, the death mentioned is simply the death of Awareness required for Expression. It is not a physical death, not an eternal death and not a warning of impending doom.

At this point, perhaps Kathy’s question, "Could you discuss FEAR, how there can be no fear if you are living in the NOW, and why/how fear can exist/cannot exist in a consensus reality?"

Even though we are hiding behind the illusion of separation in order to give The One expression in Experience, we never really left! Knowing this, we cannot loose because there is really no winning or loosing. We still have full dominion over our creation.

All thoughts are creative. We exercise this dominion by choosing which creative thoughts we give attention to. In our reality, the language of creation is expressed within our awareness of ‘good and evil.’ We are still partaking of the tree and we hold its fruit in our awareness. In those two extremes, when we hold Love and Total Acceptance of our reality in our awareness and continually perceive it in Harmony with The One, we reap the fruits. We create peace in our lives and we begin to experience the Peace that Is. In this, there can be no fear. Fear cannot exist in The One. Fear can only be a perception in our mind within the illusion of separation.

Judy posed a number of topics, and this one really fits. " The world we all yearn for but haven't created and why."

Again, we must accept the fact that we are here by choice. At times, we may become depressed by our chosen experience or think that it could be better. This is natural while our mind is focused on the illusion of separation. When we consider that the entire world of Spirit that is The One is still holding All in the awareness of Balance and in Unconditional Love and Acceptance, we may choose to place our attention there. Here we will find happiness.
