Dancing on The Ball of Life

A New Paradigm

We know that the things we learn from birth result in an overall view of the world in which we live. As young adults, we already have ‘beliefs’ about the way things should look and how they should work. We enter adulthood with attitudes about other cultures and other beliefs that we have learned from our elders. From these beliefs, our sense of good and bad, right and wrong propels us through life. From these beliefs, we accept or reject concepts and peoples that are different from our accepted norm. As we have learned, this is the paradigm, the set of filters that regulate our perception.

Can you imagine a society in which everyone is accepted exactly for who they are? Does this seem like an idealistic and unattainable society? Well, such a society did exist, right here in America in the Dakota Native American peoples, among others. In that society, a child was studied from birth to determine what traits, abilities and tendencies he or she came into the world with. The child was not conditioned to fit the society. Rather, they were encouraged to develop and mature along any path they chose. As adults, they possessed a paradigm of total acceptance for the world and the people of the world just the way they are. This is not to say that they agreed with all concepts and all peoples, but they did respect the right to choose. In fact, the right of a human being to choose was the foundation of this society. All were taught and accepted the fact that no human being has the right to tell another how to think, what to believe or what to do.

The Dakota Peoples understood that when a human being takes up the task of trying to convince another that they are right and the other is wrong, they enter into a spiritual struggle. This struggle consumes an enormous amount of energy. Rather than direct this energy into such a struggle, these Peoples had learned to become one with the earth and all its inhabitants. They had learned to Dance on the Ball of Life.

This principle is the ‘Prime Directive’ of Balance and is found without exception in the fourth transpersonal layer. No entity from the layer of Balance will tell another that he or she is right or wrong. They will not instruct an individual in a specific belief. There is never a ‘You must’ and seldom a ‘You should.’ From the perspective of Balance, all life is sacred and personal choice is an innate principle of Spirit, without exception.

Yes, there are things that appall us, things that we would never consider doing and wonder how anyone could do, and things we simply cannot believe. But we must never sit in judgment, not if we are to be free.

How is this possible? How can one live without continually judging ourselves and others according to our learned belief that we must change this movie of reality to fit our preconceived notion of ‘right?’

The only way we can understand this principle is to understand the structure of this movie of reality. This reality is based upon the illusion of separation and the concept of good and bad, right and wrong. Without that illusion, this movie would not exist. More importantly, both are necessary in order for us to gain an awareness of the Balance that is. And this earth, of all the transpersonal layers, is the best place to practice.

The Master is teaching Balance. Every authentic spiritual teaching instructs that We and are One. That means that our neighbor is One too, regardless of what they believe or how they relate to consensus reality. There is no separation, but in order for us to gain an awareness of Balance and learn to dance in the movie, we must apply this principle to our life.

Who will judge? Only those that continue to cling to the illusion of separation. The very idea that we must accept everyone for who and what they are sticks in the craw of many, but it is the foundation principle of Spirit. In order to become truly free Spirit, we must understand and apply this principle to this reality.

Ponder this. Every time we judge another, we are justifying our illusion of right and proclaiming another wrong. Do we really want to carry that paradigm into the next life?

In order to Dance on the Ball of Life, we must learn and apply the principles Spirit. We must gain the awareness of Balance. For those of us that were raised in the consensus paradigm of the western world, this can be a challenging task. But we are not unique. We have the American way, but every other nation has their way and, without a doubt, believe as strongly as we do that their way is the ‘right’ way.

Our sense of good and bad, right and wrong is based more on emotional conviction than cognitive process. When we apply our understanding of energy, the impelling influences of karma and the individuals right to choose to any situation in life, we can see that there is Balance in all. And, we mistakenly equate the emotional love we experience within this life for the Love of which the Master speaks. The love of God is unconditional and includes total acceptance. In order to experience this Love, we must understand the origin of emotional love and hate and identify it when it surfaces.

The fact that we experience the emotional sensations of good and bad, right and wrong is not a ‘bad thing.’ These illusions of duality are the foundation of consensus reality and without them, we have no sense of our place in the movie. But in order to fully understand the unconditional Love of God and become One with that Love, we must continually recognize when we are interacting with the illusion and make a cognitive choice to return our attention to Balance.

In judgment, we continually evaluate others and ourselves according to a learned paradigm. But the Knowledge of Love and Unity are built into our Spiritual awareness. When we practice Balance, this Knowledge shines as the Light of The One into the movie of consensus reality, and we are free to dance.

In some respect, we are dancing the dance of life all the time. But, are we listening to the music of others? Are following or we leading?

In the next issue we will discuss our learned, emotional reactions to the illusion of separation and give some practical principles that will help us gain and awareness of Balance and the ability to create our own ‘tune’ to dance to. Until that time,

Walk in Peace
